[Plugin: W3 Total Cache] CDN (Rackspace) should all CNAMEs be one container (and therefore same URL?

  • Hey guys,
    I’m new to W3 Total Cache, but have not found the answer to this one yet…

    I’m moving all my files to my CDN (Rackspace CloudFiles) and really want to use some subdomains for my images (ie images1.domain.com, images2.domain.com, etc) (I have a *lot* of images on my blog)
    My question is, it looks like W3TC will upload all my files into the same container, meaning they all resolve to the same URL on the actual CDN.
    Do I just set all my CNAME subdomains to that one URL? (so they are all actually loading from the same URL at the end of the day) or is there a way to have W3TC pull from multiple containers, therefore multiple different URLs in the CDN that I can map the CNAMEs to?

    Yes the CNAME aliases option on the CDN settings tab, you do not need multiple containers.

    Hi,

    I have been able to configure rackspace cdn based on your instructions, however, when I access my site after enabling cdn, I get a badly formatted page. Is this because I am using buddypress and the default.css file is not getting uploaded onto the CDN?

    Are you sure all files were exported to CDN? Unsuccessful transfer queue is empty?

    Yes. all files from wp-includes were uploaded. files from wp-content/themes were uploaded. However, I don’t see files inside the directory wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css uploaded.

    Shouldn’t the files be searched for on my server if its not found on the CDN?

    Also, how do I chose to upload css files in this directory – wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css?

    In order for that to be the case, that path (wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/) must be added to the ‘custom files’ field on the CDN settings tab. Then re-export custom files using the tool of the same name.

    How did you get this to work? According to Rackspace, they do not support cnames yet for their CloudFiles service. See this thread: https://gpo.st/sh

    I don’t know why they said that, You can CNAME whatever you like. In the past, it’s worked for users that I’ve helped.
