I have run Health Check a few times today. Each time I ran it, the Plugin Versions and the Theme Versions didn’t show any information: instead, the loading “wheels” kept loading. I even ate lunch and came back to my computer about 30 minutes later to find the “wheels” still loading. As I write this, they have been “loading for about 10 minutes.

In addition, Health Check showed a problem I don’t know how to fix. It says, “A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check().” How am I supposed to know which plugin is doing that? To let you know some background, I had been disabling plugins to find out if a plugin was interfering with my Add Media in posts when I decided to run Health Check. I can only edit a few photos and none of my logos in my posts or pages. The problem is very random and makes no sense. The techs for 2012 theme told me to deactivate plugins and then see if I could edit my media. I deactivated my plugins, but I can still only edit the few that I could before.

My point is that when I was deactivating and re-activating plugins I saw nothing about a plugin that has prevented updates by disabling wp__version__check(). All of my plugins are up to date. So what do I do to fix this problem?

Also, I have this problem: “The loopback request to your site failed, this may prevent WP_Cron from working, along with theme and plugin editors.
Error encountered: (0) cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received
    Test without plugins”

How do I fix that problem?

    Hiya,

SO the never ending spinning is actually related to the message about wp_version_check() being unavailable, the theme and plugin checks rely on them (we’ve noticed some confusion there and will be making some improvements to clarify those in cases where they run for extended periods of time).

It may not be a plugin causing it, but your host may have opted to disable it because they control the updates for you, are you by any chance using some kind of managed hosting package (I know the webhost you use offers them, so that may be why).

As for the loopback request failing, I notice that it timed out, if you are on a managed host, I would actually reach out to their support and ask them about that, mentioning that loopbacks in WordPress are timing out (they should hopefully be familiar with what that means, as it was a feature introduced a while back). Alternatively if you are not on a managed plan you may try again at a different time of day to see if it may be a matter of loading times being exceeded.

Just out of curiosity, is your admin area slow by any chance, does it take more than 10 seconds to load a page in the admin area for example?

Thank you for your reply. I will contact Bluehost about the managed hosting package and loopback.

I ran Health Check last night, and the loopback request timed out again.

I am sorry, but I am not sure why wp_version_check() is unavailable. Are you saying a plugin could cause it to be unavailable? Or my host using a managed hosting package might be causing the wp_version_check() to be unavailable? Both? something else? Who fixes this problem? You or Bluehost? (On my Bluehost account site, I have automatic updates enabled for my WordPress Core, plugins and themes. When they show up on my plugin page, I update them.)

Yes, my admin area is slow at times. Can you suggest something to speed up the load time?

    Thank you for your help.

I contacted BlueHost. The representative directed me to the PHP file that BlueHost manages to send to you:
    https://storiesfromacottage.com/info.php
He thought that a PHP setting might be causing the loopback problem and asked that you look at it to see if anything is interfering. If so, he would like to you to tell me so that BlueHost can fix it.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,

I’ve been able to track down the root cause here, and have patched it, the upcoming version 1.2.1 should fix this issue.

Thank you for letting me know. I appreciate your help.

    Hi,

I’ve encountered the “A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check().” message too with version 1.2.1
In includes/class-health-check-auto-updates.php inside function test_wp_version_check_attached() the response of wp_remote_get() checking with arg ‘health-check-test-wp_version_check’ returns ‘ yes’ ( there’s some whitespace at the start of the response ) so it’s not identical to the left side of the comparison.
Hope this helps solve the issue.

    Peter

I was having a very similar issue on my site,

I went from inside the WordPress builder, to the Dashboard, and forced the reinstall of the files, it didnt change my content or connections to the database so it is a possible solution for the less tech savvy.

I am having a similar issue. When I go to login on my admin page, https://glbtc.org/wp-admin, I get a page not found error. But if I go to https://glbtc.org/wp-admin/plugins it will let me log in and get to the dashboard menu, but if I click on Dashboard, it stalls and I get page not found.
I have tried many things to try and resolve this, but have yet to be able to solve it. Do you think this is Server side? The web site is on a Bluehost-shared server.

I ran Healthcheck and this is what the DeBug code listed:

The loopback request to your site failed, this may prevent WP_Cron from working, along with theme and plugin editors.
Error encountered: (0) Too many redirects

A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check()
