    I’m having what appears to be a cascading series of problems with my wordpress 3.5.1 install.

    I have four plugin updates, all of which give me the same error when I attempt to upgrade them: The package could not be installed. The plugin contains no files.

    I’ve tried various tricks I’ve seen in the forums – changing the permissions for the plugin directory, modifying the .htaccess file… no joy.

    In what I’m assuming is a related problem, I’m also no longer able to upload images to my media library via the uploader – I get http errors AND I can’t even reinstall WordPress to see if THAT clears anything;

    I get wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-3.tmp/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/update-core.php) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/[…]/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 200
    Could not copy files.

    Installation Failed

    This is starting to drive me nuts and I could really use a solution.

    Update: Using the browser uploads generates a 500 error instead of uploading. I can insert photos manually via URL but this is going to be a huge pain in the ass if I can’t resolve things.
