Plugin upgrade puts site into maintenance mode

    When upgrading to plugin version 6.40 the sites I have it on are thrown into maintenance mode, requiring me to FTP in and delete the maintenance file.

    The directory for this plugin is then found to be empty of all content.
    I have to remove the directory and reinstall the plugin.

    Its not a huge deal, but kind of a pain when I am doing it on 13 different websites.
