Plugin Updates on Windows IIS Servers

The last two Plugins Updates that I have done have caused a few palpitations here.
On both occasions, after downloading and the update going through all the motions, of updating itself, I ended up with a a “The service is unavailable” message which stays for about 5 minutes before the site displays as normal.
Once it was the Google Maps plug-in, the next time it was the “Forms Builder” plug-in. Two quite seperate plug-ins, but the same heart-stopping outage.
Is this common to Windows / IIS servers? I say that as I “shadow” my site on a development domain which is hosted on a Linux server, and it doesn’t have the same issues at all.
Has anyone ele had the same experiences?
