• Hi,
Got a plugin update issue that has bedeviled me for a long time now. I really hope someone out there in the WP community can point me in the right direction.

    Environment:
    – Windows PC (seen this issue on Win7 and Win10)
    – Google Drive for storage of my local WP files
    – WAMP for serving my WP install via localhost

    Issue:
Whenever my localhost WP site has plugin updates, I’m unable to use WP’s built-in Update buttons. When I attempt to do so, the plugin update will fail, usually because the update process is unable to remove the old directory of the previous plugin version.

    Cause:
Heck if I know, but it sure seems like a file permissions issue between Google Drive and WordPress. I’ve poured through the file permission settings on my PC as well as Googled endlessly, but I’ve come up completely dry on any solutions.

I can currently workaround the issue by manually deleting the plugin folder from wp-content/plugins, and then reinstalling the plugin manually. However as you can imagine, this gets very tedious.

Other than this plugin update issue, using Google Drive to host my local WP files has worked flawlessly. While I use Git to drive my development process, I like the extra automated backup of any file changes that Google Drive provides me. I prefer to keep Google Drive as part of my setup if possible, but I’m reaching the end of my patience with this issue.

    Any insights greatly appreciated!!
