plugin updates changelog doesn’t reflect latest version

  • On the plugins page, I’ve got 2 plugins that say there is an update available, but when I click to view details, the changelog is one release behind the current version available for install, so I’m unable to see what the curernt version is.

    Interestingly, I’ve noticed it a few times but hadn’t paid much attention before. When I raised it on Twitter with one of the plugin developers, they pointed out that the details are in the changelog section of the readme.txt file. I confirmed this by installing the plugin, and then viewing the readme file.

    I can’t work out if this is something the developers are doing or not doing when they are publishing a new version of a plugin, or whether it’s something in the WordPress installation that is ignoring the latest revision in the changelog.

    The plugin authors probably missed something. Happens. But, impossible to check without links to the plugins.

    It’s done it with the bbPress plugin today. It seems it is not every plugin, but it’s been happening with about 70% of plugin updates. I have several plugins installed but not active on a local installation for testing, that’s why I notice that there are so many.

    If it’s the authors missing something, is it an issue in the interface, as it shouldn’t be happening that often.

    It’s happened with Jetpack today… and from monitoring it over the last few weeks, it appears quite consistently that the latest version changelog details don’t show if the plugin update is less than 24 hours old.
