• WordPress gives me plugin update notifications for many of my current plugins on the plugin page. I just updated to 4.7.5 but this was happening before then.

All my plugins are updated, but WordPress is still showing that I have seven plugins that need updating and is showing messages like “There is a new version of Akismet Anti-Spam available. View version 3.3.2 details or update now.” when it also shows I am running version 3.3.2. Screenshot.

I run my website at ibiblio.org so it’s possible there is something funky going on with file permissions. I have to sftp plugins in order to update them–I can’t use auto-updaters–and maybe something is getting changed? I know how to adjust these, but I’m not sure where to start. I’ll also contact my webhost but they don’t have many WordPress users.

I’ve done the basic stuff like deleting and reinstalling the plugins, logging out and back in again, trying different browsers/computers. Suggestions for other things to try? Thank you.

Ask your provider to set all your WordPress files to the same owner and group your php process is running. This should resolve the issue with the auto-updater and maybe resolve the issue with these notifications.

Excellent, thank you. I have asked them to do this.
