Hi guys, we got a critical error notice whilst doing an update on Wordfence plugin to the latest version (7.10.1). Error details below:

    WordPress version 6.2.2
Current plugin: Wordfence Security (version 7.10.1)
    PHP version 7.4.33

An error of type E_COMPILE_ERROR was caused in line 279 of the file /home/customer/www/websitename.com.au/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wfCentralAPI.php. Error message: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/home/customer/www/websitename.com.au/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence//crypto/vendor/paragonie/sodium_compat/autoload-fast.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php74/pear’)

Upon refresh, the plugin itself seems to be successfully updated and there’s no visible error on the website.

Would you please advise if we need to check the integrity of the plugin update? If so, what’s the best way to do this? Thank you in advance!

Hi @melisaciputra, thanks for getting in touch.

We had a few cases of this message being reported and the development team have taken a look into it. The short answer is that you don’t need to take any action.

When it only happens once (or a few times in a very short period of time), the error has come from regular Wordfence plugin activity that was attempted during the update. autoload-fast.php?exists in the previous Wordfence version, but not in the new version, so the plugin doesn’t try to load it any more.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
