• Twitter.com is down as of this forum post. It seems Twitter-tools wants to contact twitter.com on almost any page in the wp-admin interface. This means to do anything when twitter.com is down takes a minute or 2 while I wait for the connection to twitter.com to timeout.

Can you fix Twitter-Tools so it only contacts twitter.com when you post, not on every admin page when loading?

Besides that, I love the plug-in. Thanks for the great work!

  • I was just about to post regarding this.

Every few minutes, this entry is appearing in my error log:

[Thu Aug 6 11:28:59 2009] [error] PHP Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to twitter.com:80 (Connection timed out) in /path/omitted/public_html/wp-includes/class-snoopy.php on line 1142

I’d love to know why it even needs to poll twitter.com, given that no posts have been made today, and Twitter is up to date with my WordPress posts. I don’t create blog or digest posts from tweets either, so what’s the deal with that?

I saw all the error entries and wondered if my webhost would be contacting me to ask me what’s going on.

I love this plugin too but my site was all but off-line completely due to it. I only use it (now) to post my tweets in the sidebar so polling makes sense from that standpoint but perhaps it could fixed so that if it does not hear from twitter after n consecutive polls it stops and posts a default message of your choosing.

I’ve decided to deactivate it, and write a basic plugin myself instead. It’s way too complex – and apparently doing all kinds of things it doesn’t even need to do. Hell, I only want it to tell Twitter when I’ve posted a blog entry.

If you write a plugin to just do that, I would use it. I only want to push my news posts to Twitter, nothing else.

    I would be interested too.
