• Hi Simon

First of all, thank you for developing this plugin !
I’ve been looking for this quite some time now, but could not find a solution for my problem. I was looking for the same option, to post a tweet to my blog (nothing special there) that included an image. Twitter Tools is great for doing all sorts of stuff, but it can not post Tweets to my blog AND show an image at the same time.

However, as you have tried your plugin from an Iphone (and it works obviously :)) you might not have been able to test it on an Android device I assume ? So I decided to do that myself.. Unfortunately, the current Twitter clients (Twydroid, Tweetcaster, Plume) for Android do not support defining custom (image) services (like on the Iphone). So right now I’m stuck…(:(
    Any ideas ?

Keep up the great work ! And….once again thank you for venturing where no Twitter client has gone before..;)

    Kind Regards,

    Edwin

    Hi Edwin.

    Short answer: sorry, no.

Longer answer: It’s a tricky one… I’m completely reliant on the Twitter clients providing the option to allow posting to a custom image service. Frustratingly it’s something which seems to be going away… since Twitter bought Ate Bits (i.e. Loren Brichter) the only one of their Twitter clients which supports custom end points is Twitter for iPhone (née Tweetie). The more recent Twitter for iPad and Twitter for OS X, which I had assumed were built by Loren and based on at least some shared code, don’t support the custom image posting option that the iPhone client does… perhaps it’s just a bit too geeky for most people?

Anyway… glad you’re finding this useful.

    Cheers,

    Simon

    Edwin,

There is an Android Twitter client that I am developing called Trumpet. I am working on this feature as we speak and it should be available in Trumpet within a week or so. Search for it on the Android Market.

    Hope this helps,

    Daniel

    Hi Dolfelt

Thank you for developing an app for that ??

Just recently I decided to download Trumpet 0.6 for Android. The app looks fab, specially considering the fact that it is a beta release !
There’s just one thing that I don’t seem to get working and that’s the media endpoint.

I registered my new ‘app’ on the dev.twitter site and made sure to fill in the appropriate fields, like consumer key and secret. After that, I fill in: https://imofx.com (no trailing slash, though I tried that as well) In Trumpet I put in the same data. After trying this first, I made a directory called ‘TWITTERMEDIA’ in both Trumpet and the WordPress plugin (twitter media endpoint) and assigned extensive rights to it. (even tried chmod 777)

But no matter what I do, I keep getting these error messages saying that my status can not be updated. I know Trumpet works allright, because I can send out tweets and urls get shortened. The only thing that does not seem to work is uploading images to my WP blog.

    Any ideas ?

    Kind regards,

    Edwin

Hi Edwin – I don’t know Trumpet at all, but for my plugin to work there needs to be a place in the Trumpet settings for you to enter a “media endpoint” (which is really just a URL for Trumpet to upload the images to). Can you find such a thing?

Hi Daniel – Does it sound like Trumpet can do this?

    Cheers,

    Simon

    Hi Simon

Sorry about ‘barking up the wrong tree’ here ??
Of course I meant to send Daniel a message, but on his web page, there’s this captcha that’s broken. So there really is no option to send him a message. Glad you have taken the trouble to mention this ‘problem’ in your stream ??

But to answer your question, yes, Trumpet can handle a custom url with a preset endpoint, in the Android app. Hopefully Daniel will read this and maybe he can come up with a solution.
(Blasphemy here: Maybe I should’ve bought that Iphone 4 after all…;))

    Hi Simon

After a lot of experimenting, I managed to get Tweet Images for Android to work. So far I’m quite happy. ??

    There’s one question though.
For posting from my mobile phone, I use Trumpet for Android, as it is the only twitter client that provides a custom media endpoint through its settings. The only problem I’m left with is, that when I post a tweet (text and image), only the text part shows up in the tweet. The image gets stripped from the tweet message and is being send to WordPress. So people can not find a way to click on a (shortened)link, to get to the image on my blog.

Any ideas ? (besides buying an Iphone ;))

    Kind regards,

    Edwin
