• Thank god somebody finally wrote a plugin thats going to work well with Twitter. What a nightmare looking for a decent twitter plugin. This is the twitter plugin I’ve tried, and I’ve gone through at least a dozen now.

My only complaint so far is that for some reason the javascript code is calling some page load functions that access tweet-updates plugin website, which is an external URL. I’m not sure the reason for this, or what its checking for without looking through the plugin code. Regardless, this is FEATURE rich and Cache is a MUST for twitter API updates especially on shared hosting plans where 500 other people could be calling twitter API calls.

    Tweet Blender FTW!

  • Thanks for great feedback!

There is one call to external URL each time widget initialized on the page. This call is asynchronous and doesn’t hold the page load. It is there to do two things:

    1) Statistics. Much like a ping to Google Analytics or Webtrends, it allows plugin author to know where the plugin is used and how often.

    2) It also allows to opt-out and hide (N) link to author’s site from the header of the plugin. A few corporate users didn’t want that link there and offered a donation to opt-out. The opt-out feature was then bundled with tracking so that ping to tweet-blender.com returns true or false opt-out status and either shows or hides the (N) icon in the header.

Unfortunately, the server to support the volume was not in place so tweet-blender.com would go down daily due to traffic. Should be fixed this week as a higher capacity server was acquired and site is being migrated (and re-designed).

can you update your twitter status from the WP sidebar using this plugin?

@revolutionbeings: right now Tweet Blender is only working in read mode. If you think being able to post from it is a great feature I’ll certainly consider including it in the next release. Please use the new Get Satisfaction site to submit this suggestion. Thanks!
