[Plugin: Tumblr Importer] Duplicate posts on continuous Import

  • Hello,

    I updated my Tumblr blog with some photos that the Tumblr Importer managed to import into WordPress. The problem is that, after he imported those new posts, he continued to import every other post which resulted on a few dozens of duplicate posts until I realized what was happening and cancelled the import.

    Can you fix this problem?

    The importer doesn’t do a “continuous import”. It imports a blog and then stops. If you try to run it again, then there is a chance you can get duplicates, especially if you used custom domains at some point.

    Don’t run it more than once on a given blog. It’s a one-time importer, not something to run over and over to mirror a tumblr site.

    The point of the importer is for you to stop using Tumblr and start using WordPress. The importer is to help you migrate your content in order to do that.

    But wouldn’t it be possible to turn it into a continuous Sync tool with little change to code? It could simply store a database reference to the newest post imported on any given time and when you run it again it would import all recent posts and stop when it hit the reference post stored previously.

    Maybe something to consider on the next version of the plug-in? ??

    No, that’s not what we consider that “Importers” do.

    If you want to use Tumblr, then use Tumblr. The importer is for those people that want to switch from Tumblr to WordPress.

    I want to use both, because I already have a strong follower base on Tumblr that I want to maintain but WordPress allows me more theme customization.

    Anyway, I will continue to use it like this and wipe the dupes manually.
