I was trying to activate the Private Groups plugin but got this error message:

Plugin cannot be activate because it triggered a fatal error.

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare custom_list_forums() in /home/wp_4endr8/smoothstrokeswimming.com/wp-content/plugins/bbp-private-groups/includes/forum-filters.php on line 185

Might you have advice about how to correct this? What additional info would you need from me?

    sorry you are having problems.

What other plugins are you running?

The ones that might be in conflict…

    bbPress Tools
    Members
    Tehnik bbPress Permissions
    bbPress Protected Forums
    bbPress Private Forums visibility

I am new at bbPress and giving myself a crashcourse. I might have overdone it on the plugins trying to find my solutions, created some conflicts. I installed and deleted a couple membership plugins like S2member and PMpro. They were too complicated and commercial for what I want.

mine will be conflicting with tehnik bbpress permissions. My plugin is designed to overcome the limitations of that good foundation plugin, and uses some of his excellent code, hence the conflict.

As my plugin is ‘tehnik bbpress permissions +++ ‘ there is no circumstance in which you would want both or indeed just that one.

Ah,ha. Ok. I will experiment tomorrow with deactivating that one and installing yours again. Will i need to delete tehnik bbP perm as well? I imagine so, in order to remove all the code.

Technically just deactivating it will be enough.

But if you’re not going to use it (and I see no reason why you would as if you do any forum search reveals all the topics and replies) the you may as well delete it.

Ok Robin, I deactivated Tehnik bbPress Permissions and then tried to activate bbp Private Groups – got the exact same error message.

Then I deleted T bbP Perm and tried to activate bbp PG and got the exact same error message.

Is there a way to reset things or a trick to try? Or other suspicions?

ok, I just spotted that you are also using bbPress Private Forums visibility, which is an earlier more limited version of private groups, and again shares that code.

You will not need that plugin either, as PG does all that. So deactivate and delete that one, and try again.

Ok. I just deactivated and deleted it, then activated PG. It said it was successfully activated! So I will go in now and start adjusting the settings to see how to work it. I will check back in, to let you know how it goes and mark this resolved, if so.

    Thanks!

Ok. It is working as I think it is suppose to. I have other questions but I will look for answers on the other threads or ask in another one.

    Thanks!
