[Plugin: Trackable Social Share Icons] URL shortening

  • It would be useful to have URL shortening available for use, especially (although not exclusively) for use with the Twitter button. I know that Twitter now treats all URLs – regardless of how short or long they are – as 19 characters exactly, but I still prefer to use short URLs because I find them more reliable and because it’s consistent with how my site automatically tweets posts.

    I see when looking at the plugin file that bit.ly support is/was in the plugin but all the relevant lines are commented out.

    Hi wilkod,
    Please feel free to uncomment the relevant lines to activate bit.ly link shortening. This was added awhile ago as a “let’s try this out,” and it works pretty well, just we never got around to including it as a feature.

    But, I’ll check with the powers that be to see if that is something we should make standard.

    I was wondering about that too. I’m going to give it a go.

    Uncommented all the relevant lines but I don’t see anything new on the options page.

    I also uncommented the relevant lines and didn’t see anything on the options page. Am I doning something wrong? This would be a great functionality to have.
