[Plugin: Theme My Login] Change password on first time login

  • I am trying to ammend the plugin to check the DB for a bit value in wp_users. if the bit value is set to one then redirect the user to a update password form otherwise redirect as normal.

    I am going crazy trying to achieve this.

    can anyone help me out/

  • Why not just allow users to set their own password upon registration?

    First I just want to say thanks for the great plugin and support.

    I too want the ability require password change on the user’s first login. Currently I am allowing users to set their own password on registration, but I’ve been contacted by several of my users pointing out that their password then gets sent to them via email in plain text, which isn’t very secure. I believe it’s WordPress itself, not TML, that sends that email, but I haven’t yet figured out how to shut it off. So I think the safest thing to do would be to send them a default password when they register, then require them to change it.

    Hmm, I guess I’m wrong, TML does send that email. I found this thread on your own support site, detailing how to change the wording of any message the plugin sends by creating a new “translation” file:

    Unfortunately, this solution amounts to hacking the plugin code, since it gets overwritten every time you upgrade. I wish there were a cleaner way.

    Just keep an external copy of the translation file. I may start using the /wp-content/language directory as well.
