[Plugin: The Events Calendar] Event Permalinks Flaky

Hey there DaveE. Thanks for the words of support, and for reporting this. Apologies on my end for taking until now to get you a response on this issue.

This is an interesting issue – usually the reports we have are the opposite, since there are some known issues with sites that have permalinks turned off (in which case we advise users to turn them on). Does this occur at all when you’re running with a structure that is simpler, ie /%postname%/ ? Have you also been able to check whether this could be a problem related to a conflict with another plugin or the theme?

It’s also worth noting that sometimes, when you activate a new plugin or update an existing one, weird redirects may occur for a few minutes until you’ve resaved the Permalinks page. Would be awesome if you could recall whether that was the cause in the past, and whether – if it happens down the road – this solution did the trick.

No worries about the delayed response. Next time the issue occurs, I’ll try tweaking the permalink settings to see if that helps. Honestly, the site doesn’t update events all that often, so it may be a while before the issue occurs again. For now, we’ll just chalk it up to a bad theme or some other conflict.

That sounds like a good plan, Dave. Thanks for follow-up and confirming as much. If you do find that this still occurs even after the permalink suggestion (regardless of how far down the road that is) let us know and we’ll do our best to troubleshoot.

I just wanted to follow up on this issue. It appears the permalinks problem was actually related to the Redirection plugin’s “URL Monitoring” feature. Apparently there is a bug that forces the redirection plugin to redirect an event’s permalink in a weird way when updating anything about the post, not just the the slug. And, since the slug isn’t changed on update, but there is a redirection in place, things get wonky. Very weird.

Turning off the URL Monitoring feature of the Redirection plugin has fixed this issue.

Hey DaveE. Thanks a lot for the follow-up here; you’ve gone above-and-beyond by finding a 5 month old thread to post your update to…and we really appreciate that. I’m going to add Redirection’s URL Monitoring to our list of incompatible plugins/plugin features so other users don’t find themselves faced with your same problem.
