    Hi,
Syndicate Press supports feeds that are in the RSS1.0, RSS2.0, ATOM and most standards-complient RDF feeds. I will need to take a look at these particular XML feeds to see what their specific formatting is. In the meantime, I would use the RSS feeds.

Thank you for responding. I have found several other feeds I wanted to use on my blog that end with .xml. Is there a way I can easily take an RSS feed that ends with a .xml? Maybe something as easily as an online tool that I can paste the feed address in and it give me a converted RSS feed that I can use in your program?

I really like your plugin but I don’t see a way to use .xml feeds which seem to be pretty common out there. I look forward to your reply.

    Hi Triplets33,
I just put your feed “TDOT|https://ww2.tdot.state.tn.us/tsw/GeoRSS/TDOTIncidentGeoRSS.xml” into SP and gave it a try. It is showing up just fine so it looks like the content is ok and .xml is supported just fine.

As a note, the the extension of the feed does not matter (i.e. .xml or .rss), but rather the encoded content of the feed is what is important.

    Thanks for using Syndicate Press!!!

    Hi,
I’m having the same problem that most others had expressed. I’m trying to use the Syndicate RSS to incorporate a number of Blogs into a single Blog. When I enter the RSS feed RedStack|https://redstack.wordpress.com/feed, I received a “Failed to get content” message. Coincidentally, when I am in the configuration screen for this plug-in, and I look at the News tab, I also see an error message of Failed to get content from ‘https://henryranch.net/feed/’ . In addition, when I try to configure the plug-in, it seems to take an awfully long time to save/update the settings. The plug-in appears to be looking to the 2nd URL above, each time I try to save settings.
    Can you help?

    Hi cjmusante,

I just upgraded my webserver yesterday, so that might be why you were seeing the hang on the save/update. The site was down almost all day. That would have affected the news tab. Give it another try. I just opened my Syndicate Press Admin page and the news tab popped right up without any delay.

I think that I figured out the issue with the redstack feed. If you put a ‘/’ character on the end of the feed, then it worked for me. Without the ending ‘/’ (forward slash) char, the feed failed. You can see the redstack feed at the bottom of my main news feed page: https://henryranch.net/news

I will fix this so that if a feed URL is missing the last ‘/’, it will add it. I will then add this change to the next release ASAP.

Thank you very much for reporting the issue and have a great day! Let me know if it still does not work for you.

    Best Regards

I’ve added the “/” to the end of the feed, and it still does not work for me. In addition, the link in the news section of the configuration screen still shows an error “failed to get content”, as do the two other feeds, which I have inserted into a Blog Posting.

You should also know that this site is being hosted internally at our company, while I prepare it to go live in a month or so. When we initially installed wordpress, as a VM image, we had to configure proxy settings, so that the site could communicate with the Internet at Large. We’ve worked through those configuration settings, and for any and all instances where WordPress needs to access an Internet resource, it works perfectly well, except for the RSS Syndication Feed.

To ensure that the URL is not blocked from within our firewall, I’ve used Mozilla and was able to successfully browse to https://henryranch.net/news, so overall, access to the site does not seem to be an issue.

I’m also able to use the standard RSS Widget to gain access to all of the blogs mentioned in this support request.

Any thoughts on what might be causing the plug-in to fail to be able to pull this content?

You might need to clear the feed caches. Do this by pushing the “Clear input feed cache” and “Clear output feed cache” buttons on the SP admin page.

Let me know how it goes.

Another note, I think you may be the first person that I have heard of who is trying to run SP from behind a proxy. I have never tried it as I don’t have that configuration available. This is a good test case, thank you for taking the time to help out. ??

I’ve cleared both the input and output cache, and I continue to experience the same problem. None of the 3 feeds will load, and all three show the same error, which looks like “failed to get content for https://redstack.wordpress.com/feed/”.

Is there anything else that I can check or change to perform a test for you? Right now, it looks like I’ve reached a dead end, but we will continue to do research to see if there is another proxy setting, which is related to Plug-ins.

    Thx

Ok, thanks for the update. My guess is that it is a proxy issue. I’ll look for a quick solution, if one exists.

    Thanks again!

    Thanks,
If we find a solution, we’ll post it. Otherwise, I’ll start looking at other plug-ins to see if one of them will address our needs.
    thanks again,

    Here’s an idea…

In the SP Admin console, you can set the “Feed download mode” to “Use direct download. May not work on all web hosts.” This will use the php file_get_contents() function to get the feed URL. This might work with proxy configured on your server. Most web-hosts disable file_get_contents(), which is why SP has it’s own internal downloader.

You can find this setting on the SP Admin Cache tab.

Give it a try and see if it works. Remember to clear the input/output caches.

I have found some examples of using file_get_contents() with proxies and I will try to implement that tonight. If you send me your direct email I can send you the patched file for you to test.

You can send a direct support message to me: sp [at] henryranch.net.

    Thanks.
