Up until a few days ago the subscribers to my blog received notifications of updated post, and I was as well able to send them emails using the Subscribe2 plugin. I am no longer able to do this.

I have read about the similar problems others are having, and have followed all the needed/necessary/recommended steps,(created new email address/admin and updated on Subscribe2 plugin and WP settings, contacted my webhost, etc.)….but it still doesn’t work!!!

My web hosting company (Doteasy)is at a loss as well, and now say it is a Subscribe2 problem (apparently nothing has changed on their end).

It only started happening once I updated to the latest version of Subscribe2.

The only thing my webhost suggested was to reinstall the Subscribe2 plugin…but my worry there is that I will lose all of my current subscribers!?

    Please help!!!

  • @moma7680,

It’s difficult to find information from your provider but they do seem limit outgoing emails. Perhaps it is this limitation that is causing your issues.

If you want to try a reinstall the you need to use FTP software like the free FileZilla to erase the subscribe2 folder in wp-content/plugins/ and then upload the files from the unzipped archive on your local computer.

Thank you so much!!! I think you may be on to something there…

I am also having this problem. I saw somewhere that wp-cron was obselete, so do I only need to reinstall subscribe2 and not wp-cron?

    Thanks
    Graham

    @graham,

WP-Cron was built into the WordPress core quite a long time ago so there is no need for the standalone plugin now. Check with your hosting provider about their email policy and ask about the restrictions they impose too, make sure you are compliant with their restrictions.

I finally solved this after LOTS of red herrings, false trails and unfortunate time wasting…. it wasn’t anything to do with Subscribe2.

In order to send emails via our SMTP server rather than the WordPress mail one, we have “WP-Mail-SMTP” plugin installed. This works brilliantly, but the password had been changed on the server and not corrected on the plugin settings.

Thus subscribe2 was creating and trying to send the emails but they were unable to go because of the mismatch of the password at our SMTP server.

I hope this helps anyone else wh has this problem.

    Best wishes
    Graham.

    Thanks Graham for the update.

I have to say it’s not uncommon that Subscribe2 is suspected when the issue lies elsewhere. I’m very happy that you have things fixed and working though.
