I realized that the plugin was not really being used on my site so I did some tests today. I discovered that users need to have their comments approve before they receive the opt-in confirmation email. Here’s an example of the problem:

    1. Joe visits my blog, posts a comment and checks the subscribe to comments box
    2. Joe’s comment is moderated
    3. I go to the WP dashboard and approve Joe’s comment
    4. Since I am in WP, I reply to Joe’s comment
    5. Joe clicks the email confirmation link. Joe doesn’t get updated with the comment I posted in step 4.

I tried to turn off the double check feature, but there’s another bug. Commenters still get the awaiting message, but don’t get the email confirmation link. Please test out the subscription process on my blog – https://blogjunkie.net

I hope you can tweak the behaviour so that comments posted before the user clicks the confirmation link will also be sent to the user, or fix the double check feature.

    Thanks

  • Well, having both WordPress’ admin approval and StCR double opt-in is just redundant and unnecessary in my opinion. These two options don’t make sense together, and this is why they don’t play well with each other.

After you turn off the double opt-in, those who subscribed when the option was active will still need to confirm their subscription. Or you can activate them through the interface.

    Thank you,

Hi Camu, thanks for replying. So you’re saying it’s a feature, not a bug ??

I can live with that but I would still appreciate it if you can tweak the plugin to send comments posted before the user clicks the confirmation link. What if he didn’t see the link until much later or it was caught in the spam, for example.

    Thanks

So what would be the point of double opt-in? In some Countries what you’re asking would even be illegal ?? Or maybe I am just missing your point…

Sorry, I probably didn’t make myself very clear. Here’s what I mean.

    1. Bob visits my blog, posts a comment and checks the subscribe to comments box
    2. After Bob, 3 more people comment.
    3. Bob only checks his email later and clicks the confirmation link.
    4. Bob receives new comments, but not the 3 that were posted in step 2

It would be great if you can modify the plugin to send the previous comments immediately after Bob clicks the confirmation link. Thanks

Very interesting idea, indeed. Thank you for your feedback. I think I could implement something like that, maybe in a slightly different way, to avoid “over-flooding” the mailserver ?? Something like a message “Okay, now you are approved and 3 new comments were posted since your last comment”, what do you think?
