Is there a way to “show all subscribers” like in the other (older) comment subscription plugins?

I also think it’s unnecessary to create a special page for the plugin to display errors and management forms; it clutters up the list of pages. Why not just use a query parameter like the older plugins?

Looking through the options, I tried and failed to find a setting for the message displayed when users click the link to subscribe without commenting. That would be a great option to have.

Finally, when you get a chance, could you test your plugin’s settings interface in Fluency Admin? It has some display issues.

  • Hi there, thank you for your precious feedback. Let me answer one thing at a time.

    1) show all subscribers: this will be added in version 1.2, in the meanwhile a workaround is to search for all the subscribers whose email contains an @ character ??

    2) The page is necessary because there’s no other way to import the theme your blog is using. You’ve probably seen the other plugin’s management page, which has a very bare look-and-feel, and does not import the blog’s layout. Sometimes it does, but it’s broken, because of the way that plugin tries to ‘guess’ the structure of your HTML. Using a regular page is the standard way, imho, to solve this problem. Plus it’s adding ONE page, not 100… so I wouldn’t say “clutter”.

    3) Subscribe without commenting – Good point, I’ll add that message in 1.2

    4) I’ll see what I can do with this…

    Best,

    1) Best workaround I’ve seen yet. ??

    2) Actually, Gurken StC has a few settings to allow framing the management page in the theme without using a page—and it worked quite well. I suppose “clutter” is the wrong word. It just feels weird to use a “page” that isn’t a page at all.

    3) Awesome. ??

    4) Obviously nothing that needs to be critical, considering that Fluency is a pretty radical alteration of the WP admin style. But if you’re feeling adventurous…

    Thanks,
    VF5761

    1) LOL, glad you like it. Version 1.2, though, will include pagination and a better layout… right now I’m focusing more on the functionality, much less on look-and-feel

    2) Well, that’s not always true. I tried to do that on my blog, whose layout I wrote myself, and it was broken for the management page, because of a couple extra unnecessary div’s the plugin added to the structure. So saying it worked for you doesn’t mean it works for everybody ??

    4) Yeah, this will be low priority for now, but thanks for pointing it out anyway!

    2) Well, you got me there. Maybe whether to use a plain “hacked-together” template or a full-on page could be an option, targeted for, say release 2.0. ??

I just sent a message to the wp-hackers mailing list to see if they can suggest me a better solution (than creating a page), let’s see what they say!

    Hey voyager,

it seems like there’s a way to solve issue #2 and keeping the layout consistent at the same time, so thank you for pointing it out. I’ll implement the new approach asap, before my plugin becomes too popular! Let’s see how it goes ??

    Camu

Hey, it seems I was able to address all your requests, including #4 ?? If you want to test the new 1.2 version before it’s officially released, contact me via the support forum. In the meanwhile a vote for my plugin or some sort of contribution will be really appreciated ??

    Cheers,
    Camu.

    Now that is awesome! ??

I’d love to test the new version. Sorry for the delay; been offline since my last post.

I must also apologize if #2 was too much of a PITA request. My purist philosophy saw content added to the database when it could have been handled by a query parameter (as did Mark’s and Gurken’s plugins), that’s all. (Maybe I’ve been exposed to too much dogma about separating content & presentation, etc.)

I added a rating (five stars, of course ?? and a “Works!” vote for each of both plugin versions I’ve tested so far.

Hey, no problem for the delay, it’s almost Halloween after all, so some “spooky silence” isn’t out of context after all! Thank you for your input, it contributed to make this plugin better. I would love to send you a preview of 1.2, you can contact me using this form https://www.duechiacchiere.it/contatto (I know, it’s in Italian, but pretty straightforward nonetheless) and I’ll send you the zip file as soon as I have something more “stable”, probably by Wednesday next week.

    Best,
    Camu.

PS: as for the PITA request, I was kidding of course. I always appreciate when people give me feedback about how to improve my plugins. I’m a purist too (you can check my blog to see that) so I definitely understand your point of view.

Looks like this time I was offline for so long that you just up and released 1.2 (and 1.2.1 :-). (Have you ever done theatre? Tech week really is aptly nicknamed Hell Week. It’s kept me offline most of this week.)

    Thanks for all your work!

I figured you were kidding. Developer mailing lists are full of comments like that. But hey, why not apologize anyway? ??

Boy, does 1.2.1 look great in Fluency!

The new page-less management is awesome, too.

Now, as for the new customizable messages, I’m having trouble figuring out what to put in all those boxes… ?? I’ll dig into the code to find the defaults and play with them later.

If you deactivate/activate my plugin after the upgrade (see instructions), the new fields will be populated with default values for you ?? As for the other things, I’m glad you liked them. Stay tuned for 1.3 which will have a boatload of new features!

Had I taken the time to read the Installation section… But using the source code worked, too. I’ll deactivate/activate now, just in case there’s something else it needs to do that I didn’t do manually.

    I’ll definitely look for 1.3. ??

Please add Double-Opt-In for use this plugin outside amerika.
    Thanks for your plugin

Frank, I’m not sure I understand your request. Could you please elaborate on it?

    (@voyagerfan5761)

I think he’s asking about a feature already available in the plugin.

@frank: The option (I think) you’re looking for is on the third tab in the plugin’s settings. It should be labeled “Enable double check”.
