• Hi there,

Since my last post, I’m still using this (great) plugin but I notice that many people sign my petition but don’t confirm it.
I was thinking that a “Send all unconfirmed a message” would be a great feature to add, because right know I have more than 100 (on 600 people) unconfirmed signatures, and I can’t send an email manually to each one to remind them to sign.
It was a feature available on the previous plugin I used for petition, as well as custom fields (that would be a great thing to implement). But SpeakUp is far more stable and updated…

But maybe I’m the only one needing it ??

    Best regards

I’m not sure how effective it would be to just resend someone another copy of the confirmation email that they ignored before. Instead, you might try using the subject line tip described in this recent article (just change the subject line to “Please confirm your email address”).

I think I’m going to change the default subject line to this in the next update.

    Hi Kreg,

I have the same problem, but it is not totally because of ignored email, but also misspelled ones. I know the are misspelled because the email are first.last@.

If one could edit an unconfirmed email for spelling mistakes, and resend confirmation, it would great.

I also want to thank you for making this plug-in.

If you know the email has been misspelled and you know what the correct spelling is, then you could just delete the incorrect signature and sign the person up again using the correct info.

It does seem unlikely to me that someone would sign the petition with incorrect information, but that you would actually know what the correct information is. I think it’s more likely that someone wanted to sign the petition, but used an incorrect email address because they don’t want to be contacted by anyone about their signature.

If you don’t want to require that people confirm their signatures, then you might be best to leave the ‘require email confirmations’ option off.

    Hello Kreg,

Thank you so much for this great plug in! We installed Speak up! Email petitions on our blog (WordPress version 3.3.1) but unfortunately we’re having a couple of issues we have been unable to fix:
    – when people click on the button ‘sign now’, there is no confirmation message : nothing happens
    – and then : some people will receive the confirmation email, some will not. Many people commented below the petition to let us know they’re frustrated as they never received the email to be able to confirm their signature. Neither in their trash or spam box… Even when they try with different email adresses…

As of now, we have 304 people who signed up for the petition, but only 183 were able to confirm when receiving the email.
Our petition is available there : https://www.tendance-allaitement.fr/?p=366#disqus_thread

Do you have any clue of how we could proceed to solve this?

    Many thanks for your help!

    Emilie,

I checked the page in a few browsers and the sign now button seems to be working fine.

For the people not receiving confirmation emails, this may be because their email provider does not support email sent from PHP’s mail() function, which WordPress uses to send email. Email providers like AOL and Hotmail are notorious for this. The solution is to install the WP Mail SMTP plugin, which will redirect email sent by WordPress through your server’s SMTP configuration. This is covered a little further on the FAQ page for my plugin.

There isn’t a way to resend confirmation mails yet. The confirmation links for your site would be in the format:

    https://www.tendance-allaitement.fr/?dkspeakupconfirm=9cc3401986b5b5d4

where only that last number will be unique for each signature. You can get this unique confirmation code out of the exported CSV files and reconstruct the confirmation links by replacing the number above with each confirmation code. I know that’s a big hassle though and I may get a resend confirmation mails feature working in the future.

    Hello Kreg,

Thanks, I appreciate the quick response.
Indeed, it seems that the WP Mail SMTP plugin is helping people to receive the confirmation email. We just installed it so we will see how it goes. Hopefully, everyone will get the email ??
There is still something important we need to fix and I haven’t mentioned it clearly previously so this is where I need your help:
The “sign now” button is working as you already know since it does enable sending the email. However, we are clearly missing the notification message when people register.
What I mean is that people enter their 1st name, last name, email and then when they click on the button, they do not see anything happening, as if it didn’t work.
Is there any way there could be a confirmation message so they know something happened and they will receive the email?

I hope you can help ??

    Emilie,

I tried signing the petition and saw the problem in action… It appears that the form is submitting correctly via AJAX, but no response is being sent back. I can’t tell what’s causing this, but you might look on the plugin’s Settings page and see what you have in the “Success Message” (Message de succès) field. This field controls what displays when the form is submitted. If you’ve heavily customized this field, you might try simplifying the content in that field and seeing if it starts working again.

If this works for you let me know so I can take a closer look at the kinds of values that that field accepts.

    Kreg,

Understood. The success message so far is very simple : “OK”. So I do not see a way to simplify it even more at this stage ??

I’m happy if you can take a closer look to help me with this, because people signing the petition get confused. How do we proceed? What do you recommend?

    Thank you!

If that’s not working I’m really not sure what to tell you. I don’t have a reliable internet connection to do testing at the moment, but I’ll look into this when I can and get back to you if I figure something out.

Ok. Please let me know as soon as you can perform the testing, hopefully you will figure something out ??
    I will wait your feedback.

    Emilie,

I haven’t been able to duplicate the problem you’re having, so I’m not exactly sure what is going on. I can’t seem to sign your petition, but others are obviously signing it because your signature count is over 200. My best guess is that one of your other plugins is interfering somehow, but I really don’t know for sure. If I come up with a better answer, I’ll post it here.

    Hi Kreg,

I thought a quick post here would be apt, as I have sent an email through your contact page on your website – which say’s it is directed to yourself.

The email address will be bubbleads – hope it gets to you, but if not can you drop me a contact message somehow, or a link to a site where I can mail through a contact form?

    Regards
    Darren
