I tried activating the “request email” option when it cannot be retrieved from the social container, and I also activated the option to try to unite to an existing user account when the email is the same as that of an existing account.

Well after connecting my account with facebook and google, I now tried logging in using my twitter account. I received the popup “your email could not be retrieved from twitter, please insert it here”. I typed in my email but got an error message:
“This email is already used by another account”.
And I’m stuck there! If I don’t enter in a different email address, I can’t login and I can’t logout, I’m stuck on the popup!
How come the plugin doesn’t unite my information from the twitter account with my existing account?

Twitter does not share the email addresses of his users so it is normal that you see the popup after having activated the request email option and logged in with Twitter.

How come the plugin doesn’t unite my information from the twitter account with my existing account?

For security reasons the plugin will not use manually entered email-addresses to tie accounts together. If this would be possible, I could just login with Twitter, enter your email address and my Twitter account would be linked to yours.

The plugin uses only verified email-addresses directly received from the social networks. This is the reason why it does not unite the Twitter account.

I think the best solution is to enter a fake email in the popup. Afterwards you can then login with your admin account and simply remove the newly created account with the fake email.

I will forward your issue of being stuck to my developers! We are also working on a better solution to tie existing accounts to social network profiles. This feature will be part of the next version!

Well that was a quick response, thank you!

Perhaps one possibility is, when the plugin detects that the email is already in use it will give not only the error message in the popup, but also an option:
“If you are the owner of the existing account with this email, insert your credentials here to connect the account:”
and you present basically a login form.

That way the next time I login using twitter I will already be connected with the existing account.

This is not a solution at all, you can’t tell users to use a fake e-mail, I’m sorry but in my opinion this is a poor solution. Maybe you could add a “cancel” button in the pop-up window to cancel the login/register process and get back to login/register page (at least to close the popup window).

Nowadays, most people use several social networks and probably they are registered with the same email address. If we offer multiple options to login i think it’s difficult for users to remember if they registered with their twitter account or with their linkedin instead.

This is a great plugin after all, looking forward for this improvement!

    Thanks Claude
