• You install this plugin and it simply doesn’t work. It generates PHP errors which are hidden in my install and therefore we simply get blank pages returned once installed on admin and user pages.

Needs to be resolved, apparently this has issue been kicking around since 4.1.7.

I’ve now uninstalled it. Wish I never went to upgrade the software now…

  • me either…would be nice if all plugin developers HAD on their website a verison numbered backup…so taht I could go back and re download 4.1.6 and re install it – as it did work…

    unlike 4.1.7 and 4.1.8!!!

    …sigh….

updating the plugin will results in unaccessibile site, even wp-admin pages!!!
I need to ftp in my server, rename plugin folder to force plugin de-activaction.
Now when I try to activate sociable I get this error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘;’, expecting T_FUNCTION in /var/www/html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/sociable/includes/class-sociable_Admin_Options.php on line 1342

Wish I had seen this sooner, now my site is down ??

the other possibility is to change php.ini switch
    from short_open_tag = Off
    to short_open_tag = On

    which I would not recommend.

reason is given as comment in php.ini
—just in case you don’t have it

; This directive determines whether or not PHP will recognize code between
; <? and ?> tags as PHP source which should be processed as such. It’s been
; recommended for several years that you not use the short tag “short cut” and
; instead to use the full <?php and ?> tag combination. With the wide spread use
; of XML and use of these tags by other languages, the server can become easily
; confused and end up parsing the wrong code in the wrong context. But because
; this short cut has been a feature for such a long time, it’s currently still
; supported for backwards compatibility, but we recommend you don’t use them.
    ; Default Value: On
    ; Development Value: Off
    ; Production Value: Off
