[Plugin: SMF Bridge] Issue Tracking
-
Hello all! I apologize for letting this plugin slip 6/7 months behind, but I’m planning on resurrecting it and finishing everything up really soon (as in over this weekend!). In the meantime, please feel free to visit me on my issue tracker:

Sounds good, looking forward to the updated release!
Hi JonnyFunFun,
I’m also looking forward to the updated release. Unfortunately you announced a milestone for November 07th 2009 on your issue tracker and there was no release.May I ask if you are still working on it? Maybe I may also ask for an approximately ETA?
Thanks in advance for your feedback and your answers!
With best regards,
GabberMHello there GabberM! I’ve been in the process recently of migrating all of my projects off the old repositories (that used to reside on a dedicated server I no longer rent) and putting them into Google code. You can visit the Google Code page for this plugin here: https://code.google.com/p/wp-smf-bridge/.
To answer your question about still working on it – I am, and will more than likely have something completed by this coming weekend, most definitely before Thanksgiving. I’ve had a lot of people ask me about this plugin, and now that I see how popular it is, I am resurrecting it. I would like to apologize about the milestone for November 7th, that had to be postponed after I injured my right hand (some major muscle and ligament damage the doc tells me). However, now that I am somewhat able to type again, we’re back into the swing of things with these projects.
Hi JonnyFunFun,
Thanks for your reply and your answer and of course no problem at all regarding postponing the milestone. I mean you injured your hand and that’s of course a reason, but I’m very glad to hear, that you’re still working on it. Just pay attention to your hand when you’re writing a lot ??
I also think there is a great demand for such a plugin, as a lot of wordpress users do also use smf rather than any commercial forum software due to the reason smf doesn’t cost anything ??
I’m looking forward to hear soon some news and I wish you all the best.
Best regards,
GabberMGabberM, I released version 0.2 of the plugin yesterday. It has some MAJOR corrections. Please do note, however, that the plugin description has a typo – the version of SMF should read 1.1 not 2.1. I will be fixing that shortly.
Thank you again for your support!
hmm, well I installed it on WP and it stopped me logging in, wp-login.php would no longer load until I removed the plugin
Hi JonnyFunFun,
Thanks for your comment and the notice regarding SMF version 1.1 – I tried it first with a fresh installation of SMF version 2.1:- Installation went fine without any problems
- Setup within WordPress 2.8.5 and 2.8.6 worked flawlessly
However, as soon as I clicked on to manual sync, the message for successfuly synchronisation appeared along with some php error messages – but nothing was synchronised at all. I figured out that there are some minor changes to SMF version 2.1 in the table users and the field names which have been changed.
So I tried it with SMF version 1.1.10 (german):
- Installation went fine without any problems
- Setup within WordPress 2.8.5 and 2.8.6 worked flawlessly
Manual synchronisation took a bit longer than as with SMF version 2.1 – but no user was synchronised. I tried to login to an already logged in WordPress user and wasn’t able to login to SMF version 1.1.10.
So I tried it with registering a new user in WordPress – upon registering the user I received an error message (don’t remember exact what it was, sorry for my lazyness) the user was registered within wordpress but not within SMF – the newly registered user could log in to wordpress but not to SMF.
I tried it also the other way around: Registering the user within SMF version 1.1.10:
the user was registered within SMF, where as it wasn’t registered within wordpress. The user could log on within SMF but not within wordpress. Please note, I’m not complaining at all – I like this plugin and the idea behind and I’m trying to give as much as information I can give for debugging and testing this plugin!
Please let me know if you need any additional information. I will try then to provide them as soon as possible if I can ??
@macmend
Hmm, on which version of wordpress and which version of SMF did you try the plugin?
Was it a fresh installation of WordPress and SMF?with best regards,
GabberMHey GabberM, I just took your feedback here and dropped it verbatim into the Google Code page for the plugin – feel free to see it’s progress: https://code.google.com/p/wp-smf-bridge/issues/detail?id=2.
To be honest, I did not do any testing with this plugin with SMF 2.x, only the 1.1 stable tag. The bridge works entirely through the SMF API that is available, but I’m not sure how well it works with 2.x. I’ll have to dig into that one sometime this week.
I will, however, take a look into the issues with 1.1 right away. I plan on making at least a bi-weekly if not weekly release of the plugin until things get straightened out perfectly. If you wish to contribute, the Google Code page is the best place for you do do so.
I greatly appreciate the help and even if you wanted to complain – I’d understand perfectly.
macmend: I would also like to know what version of SMF and what version of WordPress you are using. I’m not too sure of compatibility with older versions of WordPress, nor am I too sure of the beta versions of SMF. Any additional information you can provide, the better. Thanks!
JonnyFunFun, it is wonderful that you are working with this plugin, Please if possible have a look at the latest smf 2.0 rc2 public which is said to have the simplest and the most beautiful codes. Would be wonderful to see the birth of such extremely useful plugin. Thank you very much.
@paulyung – I’m not sure how much I will look in to the latest version of SMF until it is an official stable release, and not just a release candidate. I am making the plugin for WordPress to work with the latest stable, non-RC versions of both.
