Plugin slowness? Consuming 20-50% of all plugin execution times

Having some sluggishness and high memory consumption from this plugin it appears. Discovered it initially via P3. As it turns out MapPress is frequently consuming over 50% of the plugin execution times for a site we have it running on. It consistently runs between 20-50% of all plugin execution times.

Are there some ways to speed up or optimize this plugin that will help chop this down?
