    Hi, Ben.

I installed this plugin on my site https://www.davidbridger.com at around midnight (UK time) last night and tested it. Immediately, my site slowed to a crawl, hanging frequently, both when I was trying to return to the post from the test tweet and during my internal edit attempts to remove the tweet note from that post.

I tried unchecking the box in settings to allow the long url, hoping that might help. It didn’t. So I deleted the plugin and went to bed. This morning my site is still slow and hanging frequently.

My site is light and fast, with only 4 essential plugins that I’ve been using for three years with no problems. Everything was fine until I installed this plugin, and I’m certain that I’ve done nothing else that might cause the site to slow down.

I realise there might be something happening on WP that’s slowed me down and is totally unrelated to either my actions or your plugin. It might be a horrible coincidence. But, y’know. ??

I like the look and function of your plugin and still want to use it once this problem is resolved.

Do you think it might have slowed my site down? Is there a chance it might have left some code on my site or something when I deleted it? And if so, how can I fix it?

    Thanks for your time.

    David

    Hey David,

Thanks for reaching out. Your site is going quite fast for me now.

My plugin does a couple of things, none of which *should* result in page load times.

First, it registers a shortcode, which simply tells WordPress to parse codes that it finds in the text like [bctt tweet=""]

The other thing my plugin adds to the site is a very small css file, which should not affect pageload at all.

It’s possible that if another plugin is minifying your CSS or something, that it is interacting poorly with that tiny CSS file of mine. That’s all I can think of.

I’m happy to continue troubleshooting this with you.

Are you on shared hosting? It’s possible that a site on that same server got slammed with traffic or something during that time.

If I were you, I’d try re-enabling my plugin to see if the issues happen again. I suspect my plugin was the victim of an unhappy server-level coincidence.

If it happens again, we can try to pinpoint the bottleneck.

    Hi Ben,

Thanks for responding so quick and friendly. ??

A friend of mine had no problem with the speed of my site when she checked this morning, so she had the same experience you had with it. But it’s definitely still poorly.

It’s hanging up for me one or twice out of every three or four load-attempts, especially this morning when I was reloading while changing my newsletter sign-up box, and this afternoon while I was adding text to a page. Normal everyday tasks, that have never been a problem before, but now require me to close the browser repeatedly and start again with attempted reloads.

In the circumstances, do you still advise re-uinstalling your plugin right now?

    Hi again Ben.

I think your intuition about something going on at another site with my host may well have been right. Suddenly, when I went in to add text and update the site, everything has gone back to working at lightning speed.

Have an Event happening today and things are a bit bonkers, so I won’t re-install your plugin until everything calms down. I will get it again though.

Thank you very much for your helpful response.

    Cheers!

    Hi, Ben.

I know I marked this thread as resolved, but it’s only fair that I come back and tell you I’ve reinstalled your plugin today and everything it working perfectly.

I believe it was indeed – how did you put it? – an unhappy server-level coincidence, and I apologise for jumping to the conclusion that the plugin was probably to blame.

It’s an excellent plugin. Thank you!
