[Plugin: Simplr User Registration Form] Assigning a role on signup

I want to be able to allow users to add events via a form and have set up a role “event contributor”. I used [Register role=”event contributor”] on the sign up page. However when I try it, the new user has role set to “none”. Any ideas?
