• Hey,
I’m not an expert programmer or anything so this could be a really easy and stupid question – but could someone please help me with the installation of this plugin?

I have installed it the usual way, but when I go to the portfolio options under settings, there is something going on with the slug.
It’s asking me to create a portfolio.php file and a single-portfolio.php file. Which I can do, but what do I put in them?

After reading a bunch of explanations, the best I could get was “the loop”, which I read up on the WordPress – but it just goes straight over my head.

Could someone please explain what I need to put into these files?

Thanks so much in advance! ?? ?? ??

  • I’m not sure if you still need help. The portfolio.php acts like WordPress’s page.php, you can customised the page you like. As for single-portfolio.php, it acts like single.php, you can customise the single post.

If you’re not sure what to do with it, I suggest you copy whatever that’s in page.php, do the same thing to portfolio.php. Same for single.php & single-portfolio.php. Hope it helps.

Hey – thanks for the response.

In the end, I installed the theme that they recommended and then backwards engineered it from there. I then figured I’d just do what I needed to do with categories.

Thanks anyway for getting back to me on this one. Had someone have said that earlier – the whole thing would have made a lot more sense to me!!

    ??

I’m having a similar problem. I don’t know anything about PHP and I was hoping this plugin would work right out of the box and for the most part it does, except when it comes to displaying the media and project information. I saw the tutorial video and it mentioned 2 files that I need to create and add to my theme but I’ve no idea what exactly I’m supposed to put in those files to get the plugin to show the project data and media. I’m currently using wordpress 3.3.2 and version 2.0 of the simple portfolio plugin with one of the free themes you can choose from the wordpress themes page.

Hey as a non-php genius myself – my recommendation would be to download and use the theme that the plugin people have made themselves, then copy across the relevant files to the theme you are wanting to use.

In all honesty, in the end, I didn’t use the plugin, I used a specific category, called it portfolio and it did basically the same thing (then omitted that category from the blog-roll).

I have no idea if any of that helps – but that’s my experiences…. someone more experienced would understand it more I think…
