No, it is using the short URL intentionally. If you were using a different type of URL shortener, like YOURLS or bit.ly or something, then it would use that instead.

The reason it uses the short URL is that many people have stats gathering systems on their short URLs and so by using that shortlink, they can get stats on how people are coming back to their site.

The ?p= method is the default WordPress short URL method, and it causes a redirect to the long URL anyway, so it doesn’t really make any difference to have the short URL on Facebook posts.

ok, than its not a issue. Thx for the fast reply :).

the likes on facebook doesn’t seem to count towards to the like counter on the website with the short url enabled.

is there a way to make Publisher use the long url?

The likes on Facebook don’t count towards the like counter on the website regardless of whether you use the shorturl or not.

The published post on FB is not the same thing as your post on your own site, and they will not share “likes”. There is no way to make them share likes either, they are two entirely separate things.

BTW, where exactly did you get the impression that this could be done? I ask because you’re not the first person to seem to think that this was the case, and I’m not sure where people can get that idea… If it’s something in the plugin giving you this false impression, then I want to correct it.

Hi, I’m bumping this. Is it possible to get an option to use my real URL when sending to the facebook group? I don’t like the wordpress shortened URL. Using /%postname% as my slug/permalink looks much better.

I might end up hacking this one myself if the answer is no. I like to avoid these redirects whenever possible.

    Thanks!
    Mike

Sorry, but that’s just not true. If the URL on Facebook points to the URL corresponding with the like-box on the page, then it will show up as a like on there as well.

I’ve been trying to locate a plugin that auto-posts to Facebook that does not use Shortened URL’s because it removes the activity on the articles themselves. I’ll subscribe to this to see if someone gets one working. I’m trying out “Add Link to Facebook” right now to see if that will work.

i would also be interested in this, for some reason facebook doesnt like my links in the default permalink format, they show as insecure so you cant even get to my site.

In my case, Facebook is blocking all links to my WordPress site if I post in my WordPress blog and it copies the post on my Facebook site. The link SFC uses is classic URL (examplepage.com/?p=12), but I have setup in WordPress a custom URL format (examplepage.com/[postid]/[postname]).

Is Facebook blocking my website because the page is forwarding to a different URL, and that is a potential security risk?

Post in WordPress, link that is posted onto Facebook page:
https://www.kcwebplaza.com/elearning/blog/?p=57. The page forwards to https://www.kcwebplaza.com/elearning/blog/2012/07/adobe-captivate/launch-pad-updated-for-captivate-6/

No, SFC uses the shortlink intentionally. If you used a different shortener service, such as bit.ly or something, then it would use that link instead.

The shortlink vs. the long link doesn’t matter to Facebook, it follows redirects.
