[Plugin: Simple Cart & Buy Now] Paypal Shipping Question

    I’ve been reading the documentation regarding Paypal and shipping, but I must be missing something because I can’t get it to work – I have set up shipping methods in my Paypal account as described, but when I put items in my SCABN cart and hit the “check out with Paypal” button, it asks me to log into my Paypal account and then I get a “Review Your Information” screen and a “Pay Now” button. There’s nothing about shipping methods. Clicking “pay now” completes the transaction without ever asking about shipping. Am I doing something wrong?

    Paypal’s interface for shipping is confusing. It defaults to the cheapest shipping option available. So if you have Paypal configured right, when you first go to Paypal’s site it will include a price for shipping. Buried somewhere on the first or second screen ( I forget) is an option to change the shipping method. I’d play with the paypal settings for shipping (only one option, change the price, etc) and see what does and doesn’t get passed on. SCABN doesn’t pass any shipping info to Paypal, so it is a Paypal setting issue. Maybe there is a global option in Paypal to use its shipping options and not foreign cart shipping settings thought.

    Thanks for the tips – I’ve been digging through support threads on the Paypal side as well. Is the “check out with Paypal” button using Paypal Express Checkout? From what I’m reading, people are saying that Paypal Express Checkout doesn’t support shipping options.

    Is there a way to have SCABN pass its cart contents to a standard Paypal shopping cart? Or, do you know of any SCABN users who have successfully set up multiple shipping methods with the Paypal Express Checkout and how they did it?

    I will keep searching through Paypal support to see if there’s any useful information for me there.

    SCABN uses the standard Paypal shopping cart. I use it for multiple shipping options (see iguanaworks.net for reference).

    I think I figured it out. I looked at your example and it worked right away. So I compared yours to mine, and realized one difference was that I had SCABN set to use the Paypal Sandbox and yours is set to live. So I switched mine to live, just to see, and it worked fine. I guess the Paypal sandbox doesn’t read the shipping settings from the live seller account. I’ll make sure my sandbox seller account is set up correctly.

    No sandbox is totally separate — if you log in to sandbox, you can set the shipping options, just like for the regular site. If you have the shopping cart point to the sandbox, then it takes the shipping settings from the sandbox.
