• I installed Simple Auto Featured Image on a blog that has several thousand posts that use a custom post type. About half the posts contain images inserted using <img> tags pointing at image URLs on the same domain.

I configured the plugin to generate featured images for the custom post type and pressed the save button. Nothing happened and none of the posts seem to have featured images set.

It seems like there should be a Generate button somewhere but I can’t find it. What am I doing wrong?

  • The button to generate thumbs for existing posts is not where the author stated. But it is there. I don’t know if he added it after you made your original comment. Anyway, it’s not under tools like it should be, it’s under Settings > Auto Post Thumbnails.

Hello, I have several thousand posts as well. I have found that the featured image is generated only if I update an existing post.

The config options I found are under Settings > Simple Auto Feature Image

    wp-admin/options-general.php?page=simple-auto-featured-image/simple-auto-featured-image.php

Am I missing something? Thank you.

This plugin doesn’t select a post thumbnail for the old posts. You should return to the post edit and save for the plugin choose the first image as the post thumbnail.

Do you have a suggestion for assign the 1st image in old posts as the featured thumbnail or at least selecting post thumbnails?

This is my condrum, we’ve moved to wordpress and need to assign featured images to every post.
