[Plugin: Shopp] Not getting support. Any advice?

Was hoping some of you with more experience could provide suggestions on effective methods of getting support from an elusive plugin author.
I’m using Shopp to provide e-commerce functionality for my client. While everything has worked fine, I encountered a sneaky but crippling bug with shipping options that has stopped the project dead in its tracks for about a month now. I’m quite realistically at the point where if this doesn’t work, the project dies along with the remainder of my payment or I have to convince my client to pay me more money and start all over.
I’ve spent this past month attempting to get support for this bug with varying amounts of success. The one time I managed to get the plugin author in live chat, he fixed a couple other contributing bugs but had to go in the middle of figuring out the last remaining one. I haven’t been able to pin him down since, and it’s been 2-3 weeks.
Other than writing bad reviews about his plugin, are there any other means of getting leverage in this situation? I hate to use less graceful means, but when bad support gets in the way of a check, I’m not sure what else to do.
Any suggestions?
