• Hi:

    I’m looking for help with Shadowbox JS, which I really like, but have not been able to get to work with F4Vs or MP3s. I am trying the software in hopes of buying for commercial applications. If I can get these two formats to work, I will be buying it.

    Here is an example post with a few file types:

    https://www.okilifoundation.com/2009/10/test-video/

    The f4v is the first link, and the mp3 is the last. Because I was having trouble, I used the “rel” attribute in all of them, as follows:

    testf4v

    test

    vid3

    MidnightMoon

    Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Leha

    Oops, duh. My links got made into links. Imagine that. Since comments seem to get converted to gt/lts, I’m removing the beginning and ending angle brackets to confuse the parser.

    a href=’https://www.okilifoundation.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/vid3.flv’ rel=”shadowbox”>vid3</a

    You need to make sure that you enable FLV support in the plugins settings page (Settings->Shadowbox JS). FLV support is disabled by default in version 3.0.0.0 and newer. The mp3/f4v support is provided by the FLV player. Please read the information below the enable flv section as you will need to do another step after accepting the licensing.

    Thank you, Sivel, for your reply, but I had already done that (both steps). Any other ideas?

    Thanks again,

    Maybe I’m misunderstanding how this works. Is the JW player something I need to install to the site, or something you have installed as a part of the plugin? I had assumed the latter.

    If I use Shadowbox commercially, will I be then paying you your $210, and JW an additional 49 pounds? (I think I have this part right.)

    I was too busy before to actually test. Now I find myself with the time but it appears as though Shadowbox JS is not enabled. So that leaves without the ability to take a closer look.

    BTW, the JW FLV Player is included. However if you want to use either of these products, JW FLV Player and Shadowbox.js you will need to purchase the licenses from their respective authors.

    I’m sorry–I temporarily deactivated the plugin so that I could test another plugin without worrying about compatibility issues. It turned out the other plugin worked, so I will go ahead and switch them out, and then if you could test the Shadowbox plugin when you have the chance and let me know, that would be great. I also deleted the link to the original test, so here is a new link. At this point I just need it to work with F4V, so I’ve omitted the MP3 link.

    Thanks again, Sivel, and sorry for the back and forth.

    Ok, so it looks like what you need to do is make the rel attribute look like:

    rel=”shadowbox;player=flv;”

    If you want to specify a specific size for the video do so by making the rel attribute look like:

    rel=”shadowbox;width=640;height=480;player=flv;”

    Awesome! Thanks so much. I had tried “player=f4v” but I had it in its own quotes and it never would have occurred to me to use “flv” for the f4v format.

    I really appreciate your help, Sivel. I just have one more question: I noticed the first time the player loaded the test video it took a really long time to buffer. After that I could load it in any browser (on any machine) and it was much faster. Since the video is already loaded in the WP gallery, it seems like maybe Shadowbox JS is storing the entire clip somewhere else before it can start to play it. Do you know if there is any option or code fix I could use to preload the videos so people won’t have to wait if a clip has never been loaded before?

    Thanks again!

    Leha
