I was psyched to see the most recent WooCommerce update announcing this plugin. In testing however, it seems that we need to sync a Jetpack account in order to use the new USPS feature. If I’m building WooCommerce powered sites for someone else, they would need to make their separate Jetpack account, correct (because they should have their own credit card set up for the rates)?

Further adding to the 3.1 update, to sync my extensions to the store it wants me to login using my WordPress account (which is now synced to WooCommerce) So technically, anyone I would build a website for using extensions under my own account will need to be logged in through my WordPress account? Are there ways to limit the client’s access since they will be logged into my account?

If you could confirm these two inquiries, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Correct, though the credit card would be used for purchasing shipping labels. Rates do not require payment.

The best way forward is to have your clients set up a WordPress.com account (to be used on WooCommerce.com as well), or set one up specifically for them. That way you won’t be connecting your account to every store you build. On the client’s account, you can add yourself as a contributor. This will enable you to manage their subscriptions. See here for more information: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/adding-collaborators/

If you have any further questions about WC 3.1 or the collaborator feature, please open a ticket here: https://woocommerce.com/my-account/create-a-ticket/

    Thanks for the response.

I just ran through the steps of setting up a WordPress.com account > which when trying to connect with Woocommerce has me make a WooCommerce account > after all of this it still shows the new collaborator account ALL of my subscriptions and allows them to download any of my extensions they want. I only want them to have access to the subscriptions they paid for.

Will you be phasing out the WooCommerce helper? I hope not, because that was a better method for updates!

    Hi Valerie,

A collaborator will be able to download your purchases as documented here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/adding-collaborators/#what-are-collaborators

However these permissions can be managed by you: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/adding-collaborators/#adding-a-collaborator – you can untick the boxes of the permissions you do not want granted.

As for the WooCommerce Helper: To my knowledge, we currently have no plans to phase it out.

    Thanks for the response Con,

I see the options for collaborators. All I want to do is give the client access to their paid extension. As far as I can tell from the documentation, I can either give access to all my extensions or none. Correct? It would be beneficial if we could check off extensions they do not have access to.

    Hey Valerie!

It seems there’s a small misunderstanding here on how collaborators work. The collaborators on an account are intended to be for a developer of a site to have access to a site owner’s extensions, tickets, etc. It appears that you are doing the reverse, though, you are the one that maintains the extensions and links to multiple other sites, correct?

I have raised the question to see if it is possible to limit the downloads available for collaborators. In order to track this better, I have created a ticket under your account, please let me know if you do not see it there.
