@chrischrischris The sitemap file intentionally contains a ‘noindex’ robots meta tag, so this is the expected behavior.

The sitemap is set to ‘noindex’ as it not meant to be indexed in a search engine’s results, as it is not a page that would be useful to a user’s search. The sitemap file is only meant to be crawled by search engine bots, and is meant to be a guide to search engine bots to indicate which pages on a site should be indexed/crawled.

    Hello devnihil

Thanks for getting back to me.
In regards to the issue yes I understand the principle of not wanted users to find your site map via say google, however since I’ve installed this google have given me a non-index issue & my site map is now being ignored by google causing fewer pages to be indexed.

    The issue being described as:
No: ‘noindex’ detected in ‘X-Robots-Tag’ HTTP header

This code appears to have been injected by Yoast and from what I can tell remains there even when the plugin is removed. I am trying at the moment to remove it as part of a sanity check, is there any guide to removing it?

    thanks

    Hi @chrischrischris,

Can you share more information about where you’re seeing the error from Google related to your sitemap or other URLs?

The URL Inspection tool in the Google Search Console is only intended to be used for web pages that should appear in search results. Since XML sitemaps shouldn’t appear in search results, we would expect a warning about “noindex” to appear.

Can you let us know if any errors appear under the “Sitemaps” section of the Google Search Console?
