[Plugin: Scissors and Watermark] Images not automatically resizing when the post is saved

    Thanks for keeping Scissors alive. I really loved the plugin and was really disappointed when it stopped being maintained.

    Unfortunately, now that I’ve installed the plugin, it doesn’t work as I understand it is supposed to.

    Observed behavior:

    1. Create a new post
    2. In the post editor, upload an image
    3. Insert the image into the post
    4. Hover over the image and click the image properties icon that appears in the upper left
    5. Choose to resize the image by 60%
    6. Note that the IMG tag has been updated to reflect the new image dimensions.
    7. Save and view the post
    8. Check the HTML source for the post. The image source is the original image URL
    9. Check the image file referred to by the URL. The image file has the dimensions of the originally inserted image

    The behavior I expect is that the image URL in the saved post will refer to a new file with the custom dimensions, and that that file will have been resized to those dimensions.

    Am I misunderstanding what should be happening?

  • I’m not sure that the plugin works this way.. I think the 60% button you’re referring to is the WordPress default function, which doesn’t crop the image.

    Instead remove the image and start afresh:

    • hover over image, click delete
    • insert image
    • crop using Scissors
    • Insert the corresponding size into the post

    I haven’t known the plugin to work otherwise!

    Hi,

    – upload the image to the media library
    – “Edit” the image via media library
    – use “Crop”, “Resize”, “Rotate” or “Watermarks” function
    – insert the corresponding image size (thumbnail, medium, full or any of custom image size if are defined) to the post

    Thanks for the clarification.

    I’d worked with the original author of Scissors to automatically create resized versions of images that had already been placed in the editor. I’d hoped/expected that that functionality was part of what had been kept alive. If that is no longer the case, then this portion of the plugin description, carried over from the original scissors plugin, should probably be removed or adjusted to reflect the current functionality.

    Additionally, images that are resized in the post editor are automatically resampled to the requested size using bilinear filtering when a post is saved, which improves the perceived image quality while reducing the amount of data transferred at the same time.

    Hi,
    the plugin works the same like in version 2. I used the same code, just repair mistakes and influences by the upgrading of WP core.

    In my case I always first crop the image and after that I add it to a post. If I crop image which is already added to a post, I always add it once again. And sure I dont use the procentually re-size an image in the post editor. Of course that it has influence to quality of an image. Better is to set custom sizes and use them.
