• I am planning on installing Sabre on two of my sites, as I did not know much about this bot registration thingy till I started noticing the same username and email are registering on two of my sites. The two sites are so unconnected and dissimilar in contents, one site is a recipe site for my wife and my site is an engineering tutorial site.

My question is why these people would want to register on any site or multiple sites when the site doesn’t give any extra privileges to registered users or does not provide extra info to registered users. WHY???

Also I noticed the majority of the registered user have an @mail.ru email address.

My advise is to disable, in WordPress, the possibility for someone to register on your site if you’re not offering any additional feature for registered users. It’s the most simple and effective solution to your problem.
Otherwise, the second best solution is to use Sabre, of course ! ??

To answer your question, hackers always try to find a way to take the control of blogs, sites or computers and are looking for open doors. To do so, they send automated programs to scan the registration pages of known CMS like WordPress and, if they can, they register. Doing so there is always a chance to find a WordPress instance poorly configured that will grant them excessive privileges, giving them the possibility to wreak havoc in your computer.

I hope these explanations were clear enough and gave you helpful information.

    Best regards,
    Didier
