[Plugin: root Cookie] Subdomains support: will not log out

  • I just installed root Cookie on my wordpress site and found that when I went to the root Cookie subdomains settings page and enabled subdomain support, suddenly I became unable to log out of my wordpress account. If I disabled the subdomain support, I could log out again, but if I tried to tick the checkbox or even enter a specific subdomain, whenever I tried to log out I was just redirected to the same page, still logged in.

    Is there any way to fix this? I’m not sure how the problem arose or if it’s specific to my site.

    I pushed a change a little while back to help wiziee, but their issue was chrome not deleting the cookie rather than a WP/root-cookie problem… what browser are you using?

    Okay, I took a look. Similarly, the updated php did not help me. However, because wiziee realized the problem lay with Chrome, I tried using another browser as well. (I typically use Safari, as I’m on a Mac.) In Firefox, the plugin works just fine.

    I’ll be getting a new laptop soon and moving back to PC, where I’ll use IE, which apparently works from what wiziee says. So I’m not too concerned.

    Is it not possible to have a cross-browser solution, as I would like to use the wordpress authentication throughout the site, and your plugin is very useful, but I would prefer not having to restrict site users to certain browsers?

    I think there is some miss-understanding in this thread; the plugin is not restricted to a given browser, it uses the same “delete cookie function” for logout that WordPress uses… what is odd here is that Ffox/IE works and Chrome does not… I will update the plugin against the WordPress trunk and see if any fixes have been issued.

    I did know the plugin is not restrictive, I might have expressed myself badly.

    However, if it helps you find a fix, I no longer have the problem since I have taken the multipe sub-domains option off.

    Also, fyi, the “News & Tutorials” section of the options page comes up with the below error on my site, it could well be linked to my site config, i have not had much time to debug the error.

    Is fixed in 1.5.3 , seems like some versions of PHP don’t like http redirects.

    I am looking into the chrome vs ffox thing.

    Hi Nick,

    I can confirm that this same thing happens to me on Chrome. Seems like somehow the cookie just does not clear no matter whether I log out or not (but just for chrome). (Clearing cookies manually seems to fix it).

    I love the plugin, it fills a real need for us–but lots of our users do use Chrome, and do want to log out sometimes. Hope you can figure it out!
