• I am at the point of having a few navigation menus: General Public, Pages, and Subscribers. These menus have different pages or categories assigned to them.

I then have three sidebars that each contain a navigation menu. The idea is that the general public user (not logged in) could see the names of the three sidebars, but only content for the general public one as the other two would not allow someone who is not a subscriber or higher to access it.

I could be confused here, but I am about to restrict access subscribers and above from viewing the content. I am not able to make two non public navigation menus suppressed from the general public.

    Example:
General Public user views the site they can see in the sidebar, but this is how a subscriber or above should see it:
    Public Forum
    -General Information Forum

    Members Forum
    -Meeting
    -Luncheons
    -Special Events
    -Personal Growth Groups

    Pages
    -Board of Directors
    -Governance Documents

I only want the general public to see:
    Public Forum
    -General Information Forum

    Members Forum

    Pages
    ____________________________________
Any ideas on how to do this?

I found the answer, but it could be my theme which is stopping the Navigation Menu Role Scoper permissions from working or it is broken.

To remove the pages from the Pages sidebar to the general public:
Part 1. Roles > Pages > Check all groups > Check the Page Reader Role on all pages to be hidden from the general public > Click update
(this just adds the groups to the pages nothing else)

Part 2. Restrictions > Pages > Check the Page Reader Role on all pages to be hidden from the general public > Click update
(this no applies a restriction so that the groups in step 1 are the only ones allowed to read the pages)

The same process is for the posts and categories. This is apparently how Role Scoper is supposed to work and it took a while for this to click (my mental issues I guess).

The funny thing is that I use the Unite theme and when trying to apply the Navigation Menu groups (like part 1.) and the restrictions (like part 2.) the opposite result occurred. The general public could view all Navigation Menus and the subscriber or higher roles could not see the Navigation Menus.

That was mind boggling and made me start all over as I thought I was totally wrong on the use of Role Scoper.

I hope this helps a novice user in the future.
