Plugin returns parse/syntax error

    I activated the plugin and received the following error:

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in HOME/wp-content/plugins/meow-gallery/mgl_run.php on line 58

    Removed the plugin to get the site working again. Any fix for this?

    Running WordPress 5.02, PHP 5.3.29.
