[Plugin: Restrict Categories] Problem with multi author site

  • There is a great problem using restrict categories plugin in multi author site. If admin define or set any category to a post that is restricted to author role and if author update the post, the defined category removes from the post.

    For say if there is a category called ‘internet’ that is restricted for author role and if admin set ‘internet’ category to a post and when the author update the post the ‘internet’ category will be removed as the author has no access to the ‘internet’ category.

    How can I solve this problem?

    Well, it’s not really a problem. That’s how it works.

    Roles or users are restricted to posting to certain categories and any other categories that may be attached to the post when they edit are ignored when saved.

    I guess you can add the category they don’t have access to after they post, but that doesn’t prevent them from going back in and updating the post to remove that category.

    The problem is I run a blog with 100k user and they update their post frequently. Sometimes a post has to be assigned to ‘featured’ category which the author has no access. But if they update the post the ‘featured’ category gone. As there are many user its not possible to update each post manually. That’s a big problem for me.

    Can I prevent this by make some change to the code?

    I’m sorry, there’s not a way that I can think of that will do what you want it to do.
