• Hi All! I have a strange problem. I’ve been fighting with some plugins. Every time I try and update them, they break the site. So, in one case, I updated a plugin, it broke the site (naturally), then I renamed it in the plugins folder to bring the site back. But now, the plugin is activated and working on the site, but in the backend it has been renamed. How is this working!? I’m worried this is a glitch that’s going to catch up with me later.
    Thanks!

If you renamed the plugin (so WP auto-deactivated it), then activated it from the dashboard in the renamed folder, that’s now the plugin’s folder. It would be a good idea to deactivate the plugin from the dashboard, rename the folder to its original name, refresh the plugin page in the dashboard, then reactivate.

Ok thanks Steve! At this point anything I do to this site breaks it, lol. I’m going to convince the site owner to make a staging site so I can sort this plugin debaucle out.

    Thanks!

Staging sites (on the web or locally using https://wpengine.com/local/) are a must.
