When trying to edit an existing order, the tax line item is removed on order save. This only happens when the plugin is active.

Hi there, thanks trying our plugin and also for taking the time to reach out to us with this issue. We want to see if and how we can replicate the issue on our side to see if we can get this resolved for you. Would it be possible to post some screenshots of your admin order edit screen just so we can try replicate the setup or maybe spot what the issue could be? You can use a service like https://imgbb.com/ to post the screenshots here.

Its difficult to show it in images. (https://ibb.co/19YkHxS)

Steps to recreate the issue. I only have WooCommerce plugin and RD Order Modifier plugin enabled.

Step 1: Add new order, add all the customer information and add any item to the order. If tax rates are setup in the settings menu then WooCommerce will automatically show tax. My example order had an item for $100 and tax of $5.

Step 2: As soon as I click on create button to create the order, it only saves the product and the tax line item is not saved.

Sames thing happens when I try to edit an already existing order.

Step 1: Change order status from Processing to Payment pending or On hold (WooCommerce does not allow editing an order in Processing status)

Step 2: Do not even edit anything on the order, just click on update button and the tax line item goes missing.

Hi there, thanks so much for the screenshots and the additional info and steps to reproduce. We are looking into this as a priority and will be in touch shortly with an update!

Hi there, thank you again for the screenshots additional info, we have been able to replicate the issue. The screenshots were really helpful in that it appeared that the new columns that our plugin adds for tax inclusive viewing and editing Cost (Incl) and Total (Incl) were both missing / disabled. Following your steps with these columns disabled led to the same tax disappearance you encountered. Here is a screenshot with the Cost (Incl) column enabled: https://ibb.co/mDF9VFC

You can activate these columns in the plugin settings:
    https://ibb.co/5kvT1qJ

The plugin uses these columns both to show the tax inclusive pricing, and to allow the amounts to be edited or saved. You have the option of activating, one or both of these columns and selecting how you want the price editing to work, either per item cost or the total cost of the line item (per item cost x quantity).

The plugin is not really designed to work with both of these columns disabled as the primary purpose of the plugin is to help you see the tax inclusive pricing for line items. This is quite an interesting case for us, can you let us know if it was just accidental that these columns were both disabled or if there was another function you were looking to use the plugin for that did not necessarily pertain to tax inclusive pricing which saw the need to disable both of the additional columns, and perhaps we can assist with that.

In summary, activating either the Cost (Incl) or Total (Incl) (or both) columns in the plugin settings should resolve the issue of the disappearing tax items.

Please let us know if the above resolves the issue for you and also if you have any queries regarding the above, or if you have additional info pertaining to the use case for disabling both columns mentioned above.

Thanks also for using our plugin and for taking the time to reach out to us!

Thank you so much for your prompt response. We do lot of manual wholesale orders and the products are usually discounted. When adding discount to an individual item, Woo shows the discount on the item total instead of the individual.

    https://ibb.co/tCV1x6h

The plugin works great for our needs when the order does not have taxes but it confused the order creation process when we have taxes and the order had 15 different products.

I was playing around with the settings and might have forgotten to turn the options on and came across the issue in question.

Is it possible to have an option to just have option to edit cost of individual item without worrying about tax(incl) pricing?

May be in your Pro plugin?

Thanks for your feedback and that makes sense and it is not the first time we’ve heard that users like the option of being able to edit individual item costs but without the tax incl element e.g. on non-taxable or zero rated products, or your wholesale example. As we have received this feature request several times, we have recently added support for this to our premium version (https://woo.com/products/admin-order-modifier/). You can see an example of this here: https://ibb.co/L8Z7LM8. Just to add, this feature works independently of the tax modifier function so you can either activate this feature as a standalone feature in the plugin or in conjunction with the tax inclusive modification functionality.

We also see the value in having the option of showing unit discount amounts under the individual items as well (as per your screenshot) and think this would pair well with the unit cost edit function mentioned above. We have looked at how this could be done and have managed to implement a working prototype of the feature: https://ibb.co/MRHRFw1 which if all goes well we are looking to release as part of the next update of the premium version if you are interested in this functionality.

Unfortunately this is not something we will be able to add to the free version due to some of the complexities involved and also due to the feature relying on some functionality which already forms part of the premium version such as the unit cost edit feature mentioned above and which is not available in the free version.

Thank you again for reaching out and for giving us insights into how your store works together with our plugin and where the free version doesn’t quite meet every requirement we are hopeful that the premium version may be the solution you are looking for.

Thank you for your feedback. Already on my way to buy the premium version, can’t wait to try the new update with the discount for individual item. Thank you once again for the prompt resolution. I will mark it as resolved.

Thanks so much for your support, we really appreciate it and we hope you will get a lot of value out of the premium version. There is currently no auto-update feature in the premium version (its on our to-do list) so we will just post a message on this support thread as soon as the next version is available which contains the unit cost discount feature so you can then grab the latest version from your WooCommerce dashboard.
