[Plugin: Redirection] What method is used to redirect?

    Hello,

    I’m migrating a site from Drupal to WordPress, on the same URL. Now I’m looking into using the plugin Redirection to redirect all old URL’s to new ones.

    Does anyone know what method is used by this plugin to redirect? Because I have to keep the Google pagerank on some pages and I have to maintain all backlinks. Else our ranking in Google gets screwed.

    So is this plugin safe to use (no Javascript/meta refresh tricks)?

    Found out part of the answer! You can select the Apache module, wich will write to your .htaccess file. This is, as far as I know, the best method for Search Engines.

    Didn’t get it to work yet, maybe a problem with permissions…

    And I got it to work!
    Turns out when specifying the path where your .htaccess resides, you have to include the text “.htaccess” at the end.

    I’m curious as to what is better for load time performance

    Is it better to run redirects through the Redirection Plugin through MySQL

    or is better to run redirects through Redirection Plugin using Apache to write the .htaccess file

    or is it better to run redirects just by creating a big .htaccess file

    As a test example, lets say you have 300+ unique urls (not just a directory) that need to be redirected individually.

    Anyone test this out for speed?
