[Plugin: Really Simple CAPTCHA] Really simple captcha not writing text

I have contact form 7 (obviously) installed and working fine.

My local version runs Really simple captcha no problem. On the live site the images and php files are being created but the image has no letters in it. The PHP file shows the functions are operating and creating the letters, but the image is blank [it is created in the /uploads/wpcf7_captcha folder] but Blank.

I have GD and freetype installed!

I was wondering it it was a reference somewhere to to the fonts to be used to to create the type, but I don’t get initially why this just doesn’t work.

Any help greatly appreciated ?? please.
