• Hi,

I’ve been using this plugin for years (along with the paid recaptcha addon) and ever since the new updater plugin came into use, I find the PDB plugin itself randomly seems to get deactivated.

At first I thought it must be another user having done it by accident, so I reactivated it and thought nothing more of it. It’s happened several more times since, but I had hoped that subsequent updates might have resolved the issue. At one point I deleted the PDB plugins entirely and reinstalled the latest versions in the hopes that would resolve it.

The last time it happened was about 6 weeks ago, I made sure to do all the updates, enable WP debug mode and also the debugging log in PDB itself to check for issues should it happen again. Unfortunately today the plugin had deactivated again. There’s nothing in the logs to indicate why. No other plugins have been updated, nothing has changed overnight. I’m at a loss as to what could be causing it.

I have to assume it’s something in the updater plugin as it only started after I installed that.

Can you think of any reason this might be happening, and most importantly, any way to fix it?

Thanks for your time & for the awesome plugin!

I haven’t seen this before, so I don’t know what would cause the plugin to deactivate. There are a couple of ways that plugin deactivation can happen, but in all cases, there will be a message in the admin explaining why. Often an email will be sent to the administrator with an explanation if the deactivation happened because the plugin caused an error.

The plugin does not have a deactivation method of its own, this would be done either by WordPress core or another pugin, such as a security plugin.

If there is no message of any kind, it is very difficult to say why this is happening. The only thing that comes to mind here is the php version, it must be 7.4 or later.

Also, you mention our Updater plugin, this also does not have a deactivation method, all it does is tell WordPress that an update to one of our premium plugins is available.

Thanks for your response, it’s much appreciated. I’ve been through the logs again as the plugin was found to be deactivated again yesterday and still can’t find any errors which could be a sign of a conflict or even a log stating the plugin has been deactivated. Very strange indeed!

I’ve checked the PHP version and it’s high enough so I guess it can’t be that.

I’m absolutely stumped at this point, so will unfortunately likely have to set up an alternative to PDB – but I very much appreciate all your work on the plugin and its addons which have served me well for many years.
