[Plugin: Promotion Slider] Excerpt stops rendering correctly

    We’ve recently experienced the excerpted text in the slider on our homepage stops rendering correctly after it has been running for a while. Text from one entry will start to be included on another — sort of overlaid. Happens on many different machines, OSes and browsers.

    Force reloading the page fixes it, but the issue returns. Wondering if it the symptom of a memory leak? (We have six images loading. They’re all sized to fit the slider div & the excerpt display opacity is .8, not sure if that is relevant…)

    Anyway, we’ve been using the slider for many months (happily so) and haven’t done anything significant in terms of updating the site or theme that I can see could have triggered this.

    Interesting. Do you have a link where I could take a look and see what is happening? You can describe it, but there is no replacement for an example that I can look at and play around with. Also, please let me know what browser you are using… in case it is a browser issue.

    Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I had to pull your plugin offline temporarily (the replacement isn’t as nice & involves several hacks to match PromoSlider, so I’d like to get it back up asap.) So, it isn’t online yet, but here is a screenshot of what we were seeing.

    It shows two colliding excerpts displayed with an image unrelated to either excerpt.

    If there is any way you can setup a demo page somewhere so I can inspect the HTML and look to see what is happening with the jQuery, that is what I really need to see. If not, what circumstances are required to duplicate this issue? Again, letting me know what browser you were seeing this in would be helpful.

    I’ve re-enabled it on our home page — https://www.inewsnetwork.org/ — will that help?

    I was seeing it and getting reports of it on Safari and Chrome on Mac OS X.
    UPDATE: Also Firefox.

    The conditions surrounding the problem, that I’ve been able to replicate, are having the page loaded in the browser for several minutes. If you refresh the page, it will clear up.

    The excerpts only seem to mess up when I move away from the page by minimizing the window or moving to another tab. When I come back, the slides advance quickly and then the excerpts appear piled on top of each other. If I wait long enough, as each slide cycles through, the excerpts disappear one at a time until they once again appear with the appropriate slide as the show advances.

    The quick advancement of slides after moving away is caused by a bug in jQuery. Updating to jQuery 1.7.1 will fix this. WordPress version 3.3 includes this more recent version of jQuery and will fix the problem. Since you are running WordPress version 3.2, upgrading should solve the issue. If not, post back.
