Plugin prevents Media Library Thumbnails from showing

    As the title says, the Patreon plugin is preventing the media library thumbnails from showing up.

    Basically, the media library shows up with gray squares and doesn’t load any of the image thumbnails. I use my site mostly as a portfolio/gallery and posts my work on there. Though it doesn’t affect my site outwardly, it does keep me from making posts or utilizing the media library. For the time being, I have deactivated the plugin.

    I wanted to also add, my site is currently under maintenance for a different reason. I’m in no rush to get this fixed, but I thought maybe I’m not the only one with the issue.

    Have you turned on image locking feature?

    Yes, the image locking feature was on. I had a few images I had locked (no longer now). I turned it off to see if that was the issue, and it was.

    I don’t have images to lock currently so I’ll just have it off for now.

    Yes, image locking feature modifies the way images are handled and some image related plugins may affect that. The plugin takes into account default WP thumbnail sizes and does not lock them. But if thumbnails are larger than a certain size and the original image is locked, they are locked too. Otherwise a sufficiently large thumbnail being visible would just circumvent the original image being locked since a large thumbnail could be sufficiently large to be viewed as if it was the original image.

    I see.

    So in my case, I only had a few images locked among a large collection of images. Yet, the plugin still made the entire media library unusable. When I say media library I’m not just talking about when making posts, but also the media library page also doesn’t load any of the images (just in case I wasn’t clear about that). Is that also a normal effect?

    And I know you said it affects images that are large, but I also had small-sized images that wouldn’t load. They were not locked either.

    Before posting this issue, I also tried clearing my cache/cookies history to see if that also played into it, but it didn’t do much. It let me open the library once (with some of the images loading). I also tried in with three browsers, Firefox, Chrome, and Edge with similar results. With Firefox, for a limited time, I could access image thumbnails if I date-filtered.

    Yes, image locking feature routes all images through the plugin. So it would affect all images. But not make all of them un-viewable.

    And I know you said it affects images that are large, but I also had small-sized images that wouldn’t load. They were not locked either.

    That would point to some kind of config situation at your server which prevents image locking feature from functioning. You may want to contact your host about this – to ask if any errors are produced at your website after enabling image locking.
