Plugin preventing login to new users

I had reports from new site users that they couldn’t log in using the credentials I’d created for them. I tested their credentials and found that it was correct that login didn’t work. I got the standard message that the username/password were incorrect.

Disabling the Birds Custom Login plugin allowed me to login with no problem. Perhaps this is a conflict with some other plugin, or perhaps the lack of updates has created problems.

It’s a shame. I liked this plugin.
